Paper Straws {and a giveaway}

Red and White Paper Straws

I finally found the straws I have been looking for.  All the design blogs have been using these adorable straws to style their summer picnics, and I wanted some.  Yesterday they arrived and I have been using them non-stop.

Straw Giveaway

The straws only come in very LARGE quantities, so I thought I would do a giveaway for {50} lovely red and white striped straws.  To participate, just leave a comment.  Tell me your favorite summer memory, or what event you would like to use the straws for, or about your garden, or anything really. Just entertain me!

 *Drawing will be held tomorrow night, Friday June 25th*

I would use these cute straws to drink my (nasty) protein drinks -- seeing how cute they are might help with the nasty taste of the drink! And I'd probably use one for my poolside beverages. :)

I will be traveling all summer--so I'm not sure I'll have a chance to use them before the summer ends. But my husband's birthday is September 26 and he LOVES mojitos and gin and tonics. I'm envisioning a red & white themed cocktail party (and am thinking of freezing some red fruit to drop into the drinks!... they would be perfect!

These straws are so cute.
I spent a number of summers just making lemonade to sell. Now I have two little nephews who sit out at the end of their driveway with their mother and younger brother trying to sell lemonade on hot Midwest summer days.

My grandma had a huge box of straws just like this when I was a kid! We'd get to have one in our pop when we visited her. Wonder whatever happened to those.... :)

My favorite summer memories were lived at Mom Thomas' house in Bradford. She was my Great Grandma, but everyone no matter how related (or un-related) called her 'Mom'. She lived near the railroad tracks and would send me and my cousins out to pick blackberries early in the morning. Dressed in long pants and long sleeves we would dive into the briar thickets that bordered the tracks and pick berries until our buckets were heavy and juice ran down our wrists. As the sun climbed high, we would trudge back to Mom's, our fingers, lips and sleeves stained. By the time we cleaned up and reappeared in the kitchen, she would have a steaming pot of blackberry jam on the stove, sending out its dark, sweet aroma. She fed us blackberries for days as jam on toast, sugar crusted blackberry pie, or simply set out on the table for us to pluck at greedily.
The aroma of blackberries always takes me back to Mom's and the summer of my 10th year. The heat, the berries, the sweetness of it all defines summer for me.

Oh I'd love to win these! I've been eye balling them on all the party sites too! I could see using them for a strawberry shortcake party, fourth of july, or a peppermint themed party would be fun too!
