Etsy Illustrators

Etsy Illustrators

Illustrations are my favorite art form.  I like paintings and mixed media as well, but there's just something about a simple, colorful drawing that catches my heart.

These are some of my favorite Etsy illustrators. Follow the links to see their other work.

Ephemera Tuesday

Sheet Music Ephemera

I've decided to start a new weekly column featuring all the fun ephemera that I've collected. I'm also going to give away several of the images free for you all to use!! The only thing I ask is that you don't sell the images. You can use them in projects and sell the projects, just don't sell the images by themselves.

This sheet music came from an old house in the Oak Cliff neighborhood of Dallas. There was so much music, but I had to limit myself so I only picked out about 10 to take home. Aren't they fabulous?!  I like to use the "Message of Love" on my piano at Valentine's Day.

Summer Seashell Project

Kevin and I rearranged the house this weekend.  We got rid of an old couch that had really been holding us back and now it is much more comfortable.  After that, I decided maybe I would take down my Valentine decorations (totally missed Easter this year) and setup for summer.  We went to a few yard sales Saturday morning and I found a fun seashell necklace to use somewhere. It needed a little more drama though, so I cut up a money plant that I had and used the (pods?) to add some flair.  I love using things around the house to make something new.

Paper Straws {and a giveaway}

Red and White Paper Straws

I finally found the straws I have been looking for.  All the design blogs have been using these adorable straws to style their summer picnics, and I wanted some.  Yesterday they arrived and I have been using them non-stop.

Straw Giveaway

The straws only come in very LARGE quantities, so I thought I would do a giveaway for {50} lovely red and white striped straws.  To participate, just leave a comment.  Tell me your favorite summer memory, or what event you would like to use the straws for, or about your garden, or anything really. Just entertain me!

Restful Wednesday

Tea and Fabric

My Mother-in-Law gave me some lovely fabric scraps to play with.  I'm not sure what I want to make, but I am content enough just looking at all the pretty colors.  The teacup and saucer is a score from last weekend in Dallas.

Finnegan

Finnegan turned 5 months this past weekend.  He sure is growing up fast.  The party outfit is in honor of our favorite news anchor and walking buddy, Ashley Beck.  Happy Birthday Ashley!

Under the Big Top

Tickets

I bought these tickets at an auction a few years ago, and I still haven't figured out what to do with them.  I love the colors though.  They inspire me just by sitting on a shelf in my studio.  I put together a few vintage Etsy finds with a circus theme. Enjoy!

Long Weekend

Sorry for the lack of posts the past few days. I have been partying up a storm.  On Thursday one of the employees at my father's company celebrated his 50th year with them.  I planned the party and got everything ready (with a 5 month old in tow).  Unfortunately I was too busy doing everything to take any pictures.

Shabby Beach Invitation

That afternoon Kevin and I headed down to Hot Springs so I could go to Susannah's 30th birthday party.  It was a Shabby Chic Beach Party and it was soooo much fun! The food was fabulous, thanks to my Aunt Jo.

Beach Present

Everyone chipped in to buy Susannah a set of real pearls, since those are her birthstone.  I also put together a few little things for her to open.

After the party Kevin and I loaded up and took Finn down to Dallas for the weekend.  Kevin's Aunt Susan was having a Father's Day party and since Kevin is now officially a father they really wanted us to be there. It was relaxing and fun.  We hit up several estate sales and I will write more on that tomorrow.

Curiosity Cabinet

Curiosity Cabinet

Here is that dash of eccentric I know you have all been wondering about.  Sometimes Kevin and I collect things that are a little more on the "strange" side.  These teeth always cause raised eyebrows whenever anyone notices them.  We used to have a display case full of interesting things, but I decided it was taking up too much space and got rid of it.  This is a little sampling of what was on display.

and it was all yellow

Today I decided to show you a little of my house.  I picked a color and looked around for things that inspire me.  I hope you like it!

Yellow Collage

The towels were from the estate sale of Dorothy Franey, an Olympic speed skater who lived in Dallas. They were so lovely I had to get them.  You could tell she treasured them because they were on display and had never been used.

My bird picture is from the John Derian collection for Target.  I just love the Target special collections!

Vintage Blue Jewelry

This time I was the winner! Teresa of Poppy Place Pdx recently had a contest for some lovely vintage jewelry and I had the lucky number.  I was very excited to get my package in the mail the other day. Thank you Teresa!!

Delightful Picnic

flower bouquet

My lovely cousin Susannah was in town this weekend with her two girls.  We had fun doing all sorts of things, including hitting up a few yard sales and the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.  Aren't these flowers beautiful? I got the whole bunch for only $5!!

blackberries and cherries

Susannah's daughter Jolie helped me pick out some cherries and blackberries.  She also helped me eat almost all of them!

Saturday Picnic

I found the picnic basket at a yard sale for 75¢.  I can't wait to take Kevin and Finn for a picnic this summer.

Gifts for Daddy

Kevin helped me put this list together, so it is "father approved."  If you have any other good suggestions, let me know in the comments.

Father's Day Gift Ideas

Wallet $45Saddleback Leather Company
This extremely well constructed wallet will take a lot of abuse and still look good.

James Bond Watchband $39.95Corvus Watch
This is the watch strap worn by Sean Connery on his Rolex Submariner in the classic James Bond films Goldfinger and Thunderball.

Watch $359.00Hamilton
For those of us that can't afford a Rolex, this is a nice alternative. Hamilton gives you a a great Swiss movement without the luxury pricetag.  (for you Heroes fans, Sylar often sports a Hamilton watch)

Shirt $39.95 LL Bean
A quality wrinkle resistant shirt is a gift to both mom and dad.

Knife $104.95 Benchmade
This blade is made with a special French steel meant for saltwater and harsh environments.  It will last forever for us mere mortals.  (Kevin is quite the knife collector, so it was hard for him to pick just one)

Lotion $10 Butter London
Master Lotion is paraben free and vegan.  And it has really cute packaging!

Watchbands $9 J.Press
If you don't want to go all out with the James Bond watchband, you can get these bands on sale from J.Press right now for only $9

Beard Lube $18 Jack Black
Kevin hates shaving.  When I say hate, I really mean it, he abhors having to shave.  This lotion is the only thing that makes it tolerable for him.

The Farmer in the Dell

I didn't get to do too much junking this weekend, but I did hit a few nice yard sales. I found this fantastic Fisher Price little people farm set for only $4. The little people were my favorite toys as a kid, so I am really excited to have some now for Finn to play with.

Fisher Price Farm

Maybe when he gets a little older he will be interested. But for now, the glow worm is his favorite.

...heatwave...

Once those 90+ days settle in, there's nothing better than going to the pool (or the beach, if you're so lucky).  Here are my two most important summer rules:

1) always wear your sunscreen
2) always have the cutest stuff, so everyone else will be jealous.

This is my summer wishlist. What's on your list?

Baker's Twine {and a give away}

Pile of Threads

I love to buy old wooden spools of thread, especially if I can get a good deal. This whole pile was only $1. I use the spools to make gifts of baker's twine. I have a huge roll of it, and I like to make up small bundles for my friends. I also love to use it in all my packaging.  The packages below are by (clockwise)

Memorial Weekend in Dallas

Memorial Weekend in Dallas, originally uploaded by Gypsy Ridgley.

We went to stay at Kevin's parent's house for the weekend. It was so relaxing to get away and be in an actual city. We hit several estate sales and all my favorite Dallas shops. I picked up some cute crystal champagne glasses, a red dotted mug, a pair of Shabby Chic pillow cases, and various other fun stuff. Kevin found two pairs of Ray Bans for only $5 each. Score!
